Nowadays corporate buyouts and company mergers are typical, but rarely do we see a company look to sell off such an expansive network of stores.

The End of A Regional Giant

Shoppers Food and Pharmacy has 36 stores in the Baltimore/Washington area, including a Westminster location. Shopper’s parent company, United Natural Foods Inc., has announced plans to sell the grocery chain.

It is unknown at this time whether all 36 locations will remain as grocery stores, though rumors have circulated that Giant plans on buying several stores. The company is keeping their cards close to their chest at this time and it is not known when the stores will be sold or closed, though it is expected to happen some time within the coming months.
