Mediterraneo is like a little Sicilian restaurant right here in Westminster. The design and layout conjures up images of the boot, and the food is definitely reminiscent of some of the great Italian chefs.
I went there for lunch today, and wanted to share my experience.
Italian in Westminster
Mediterraneo is both a sit-in and a take-out restaurant. Orders need to be placed at the order counter, and the dining room is self-seating. I ordered their cream of crab soup and their baby clam linguini, and looked for a seat.
When I first arrived, the dining room was fairly empty, as there was only two other seated tables. This was understandable, I did come in right after they had opened. By the time I had left, business had picked up greatly and the place was humming.
The drinks were self-serve, so I grabbed myself a cup and got some water out of the fountain.
It wasn’t more than a few minutes before my soup came out, and it was just in time because I was hungry.
Tasty and Creamy Cream of Crab Soup
The presentation of the dish was simple, but effective. It was very hot so I had to wait just a moment for it to cool down.
The soup was delicious, with its most outstanding quality being its creaminess. The soup was so creamy, but wasn’t too thick, the perfect combination.
In addition to the creaminess of the soup, there was also the giant lumps of crab meat. The menu said it had lump crab meat, and they meant it. The meat was full of flavor and melted in my mouth.
I loved the soup, would certainly order it again, and would highly recommend it.
Baby Clam Linguini: Oh Baby!
For my main dish I chose the baby clam linguini: a good choice. When it came out, it was beautiful, and it looked delicious, and I dug right in.
The clams were juicy and very flavorful, they tasted of the sea, just as they should. And combined with the red sauce and the noodles, it was bliss.
I chose red sauce, as opposed to white, and I’m glad I did. I’m sure the white sauce would have tasted fine too, but the tomato flavor in the red was awesome. The noodles were very fresh and tasty too.
I really loved the linguini, and would certainly try it again. Perhaps I’ll try it with the white sauce next time.
The Overall Experience
Overall I really enjoyed Mediterraneo, and will definitely be back the next time I’m looking for some Italian food.
I loved both the cream of crab soup and the baby clam linguini, and would recommend both dishes. I would give Mediterraneo Ristorante Italiano a 8/10.
